Day 230

Buster Value Study, 6 x 6 inch oil on panel
© 2013 Kathleen Coy

Here is a more refined value study of Buster. I decided to go with the lighter background. In the end, I felt it was a stronger design. I can go forward with this 16 x 16 inch commission now, knowing I have everything worked out ahead of time. Remember, value is more important than color. Getting the values right beforehand puts you a step ahead. Which is why I love these value studies.

  1. It looks to me like you've already captured Buster's spirit in this one.

I still look at my K in your painting on the wall every single day, gazing into her eyes, and thanking the heavens that I have your painting of her. You captured something in her eyes that a photo can't capture.

  2. KB, thank you, that means a great deal to me. The painting of K will always be one of my favorites - not only because of how beautiful she was, but because of the palpable bond you two shared.
